I know I'm biased, but...he's so cute!

I find myself saying that all the time but I really believe it. Those of you who know me well know that I am not a baby lover but I'm being converted! It's the oddest sensation. I have totally fallen head over heels for our little guy, Ethan. Here's the story: I came in yesterday to get induced. They gave me pitocin at 9, epidural at 10, broke my water at noon, and then the wait set in because I simply wasn't progressing. I was still a 6 at 7:30 but then I had him before 8:30. Crazy! I went from a 6 to a 10 in about a half hour and the stinky part was there was a kink in my epidural so I actually felt the "10" for about a half hour. It wasn't fun...we'll just leave it at that. The extra boost of epidural they gave me started in on the first push and by push #2 he was out batting and blinking his eyes like crazy before he was even out!! The delivery part was so much easier than Coop's! Jake got to cut the umbilical cord and then they laid him right on me and I was sold. His eyes were wide open and he was just looking at me, not crying, just staring, it was so cool! That's what sold me. He came out at 7 lbs 6 oz, 20 inches on 12/30/2008 and some serious cuteness. So far he's been a pretty vicious eater but waking up every 2 hours to do so. I had the nurses take him for a little last night and feed him a bottle so I actually got some shut eye inbetween blood drawing and medicine popping and vital taking. You know how it is! Anyhow, I wanted to share our little love with everyone while he's away being nipped and tucked. We'll keep you all updated!

From 4 to 5

Just wanted to let everybody know that I'm going to be induced tomorrow, the 30th, at 7:30 AM. Knowing my luck I probably won't have Ethan until the 31st...but at least we'll still get tax benefits! We'll be in touch and let you know how it goes.

Christmas and the...Beach???

I know, I know, you read it right. We did Christmas and then went to the beach on the same day. All you northerners are so jealous right now! We had a fabulous Christmas and, of course, went all kinds of overboard. Coolest presents: Luke got hand-me-down toys, Cooper got some AMAZING quiet books from Grammy, Emily got a sweet, sweet camera from Jake, and Jake got a Wii from Emily and Mom and Dad Jewkes. Do we sound spoiled?? That's because we are. Right after Christmas we headed over to St Simon's Island and stayed in a fabulous beach house and were lazy to our heart's delight. I was simply thrilled to get through the weekend without going into labor after I had my membranes stripped on Christmas Eve. We had tons of fun playing games, swimming, biking, and Jake even WON American Idol (on Playstation) both times we played against my entire family. You're shocked right? I'm not, I always knew he was a closet karaoker. Enjoy some visuals from our wonderful weekend and my awesome new camera that actually takes non-fuzzy pictures! Thanks to all who sent gifts and love!

ROCKER Mom and Dad

We are so cool! We did some sweet Rock Band with some buddies for our monthly game night. We rocked out pretty hard core. I'm pretty sure that Ethan is going to come out head banging after the experience! Yeah...I know I'm huge!

Gingerbread, Bumps, and Smiles

Gingerbread:
Jake informed me that I was being a bit of a "Scrooge" this year when I refused to watch his favorite Christmas movies: It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story. Before I receive a tongue lashing from all you movie fans, I simply refuse to watch them more than once a year so Jake had to make a choice between watching them now or watching them closer to Christmas day. I admit, both those movies really get on my nerves! I did concede, however, and sat down to watch the 30 minute How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I believe in compromising! Anyhow, to show I'm not totally a "grinch" I did organize, and Jake built and supervised a really, really coolly authetic gingerbread house. That's right-these 10 fingers that are typing here actually made homemade gingerbread dough and royal icing (which wasn't too terrible of a process)!! And...I don't think I'll ever go through that gingerbread mess again. Soon afterwards, I saw that little Betty Crocker pouch of gingerbread dough...that will definitely be used next year. However, despite all my griping, we had so much fun putting it together and dubbed our house a "mansion" compared with those pre-bought/pre-fabricated homes. Am I proud of it? You know it!!

Bumps:
I don't know if this is a good thing but I do take pride in the fact that my children really don't get hurt that often. Maybe it's because I'm slightly neurotic and protective, but they just don't get bumps and bruises as much as most 2 year olds and babies do. What makes this post funny is that both of my kids got really bloody mouths on the same day. Cooper fell out of his chair at Chick-Fil-A and got this might fine bruise under his chin and a mouth full of blood. Luke somehow, very mysteriously, crawled up 2 stairs and then fell down 5 and landed with a mouth full of blood. We cannot figure out how this happened because for the life of us he will not go up any stairs...to this day. Rest assured, they both survived and were full of smiles for the rest of the day...here's my proof.

Smiles:
I just wanted to show some of their shining moments and cute smiles. Lukey has become a totally new baby since he's learned to crawl and become content. He is quickly crawling into a huge part of my heart. He is the most adorable, affectionate little boy. I can't believe he's going to be 1 year old so soon! Cooper maintains his place as mommy's sweetheart who can do no wrong...I know I'm in denial because he really has become quite fiesty of late. Anyhow, both my boys have gotten really cute this last week which I think is the Lord's way of telling me, "It's gonna be all right, Emily, you can handle 3 kids under 2!" I am getting anxious/excited/nervous to greet our new little man. I'm pretty sure he's dropped and is ready to come out of my tummy. We're still hoping for the 30th, but I have to convince my doctors to induce me still!! We'll keep you all updated! Oh, I was thrown the nicest surprise shower. I was TOTALLY caught off guard-had absolutely no idea! The woman I visit teach put it on and she knows how to throw a party! There was awesome, amazing food, party favors, gifts, and friends. Thank you so, so much for all who came and gave. It was truly uncalled for but much appreciated! Thank you!
